Registration Now Open for Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event in N.T.

Niagara County Legislator Randy Bradt today announced that registration is now open for the county’s next household hazardous waste (HHW) collection event, which will be held on Saturday, November 4 in North Tonawanda.   The county will also be offering paper shredding as well.  The event is open to all NiagaraHazmant NT.10.27.23 County residents but you must register in advance.

Bradt said the event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the North Tonawanda Department of Public Works located at 758 Erie Avenue.  Registration can be done by going to www.rethinkyourwaste.com/events and scrolling down to the N.T. event.  There is also a list of items that will be accepted for recycling posted to that website, including latex paint which is a recent addition.

“This is Niagara County’s last collection event of the year so if you have any leftover pool chemicals, pesticides or other items you want to dispose of, this is the time to do it,” said Bradt.  “In addition, we will once again be offering paper shredding, which has proven to be very popular with residents.”

Dawn Timm, Niagara County Environmental Coordinator, said in the ten-plus years the HHW program has been operating, close to one million pounds of harmful products have been removed from Niagara County homes.

“This has been our most successful year ever, as we have seen a record number of people attending our events to dispose of paint, household chemicals and paper,” said Timm.  “We are already working on the calendar of events for 2024.”

Timm reminded residents the county also offers a free voucher program for those who wish to take their waste to the Hazman disposal facility in the City of Tonawanda.  Details on that program also be found at www.rethinkyourwaste.com/event.
