Niagara County Office for the Aging Hosting Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program Meetings

Niagara County Office of the Aging Director Darlene DiCarlo today announced that the county’s Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP) will be hosting a series of community meetings for seniors to answer their health insurance questions.  HIICAP offers free, unbiased, confidential assistance on health insurance, with information and counseling provided by professionally trained staff and volunteers

“There are of many choices for seniors, there can be program changes from year to year, and, quite frankly, it can get overwhelmingly very quickly,” said DiCarlo.  “Our goal for HIICAP is to put out all the available information and answer questions so people can make informed decisions.

According to DiCarlo, HIICAP can help with Medicare eligibility; Medicaid eligibility; comparison information of Medicare supplemental insurance options; Medicare Advantage options; eligibility for programs that help with the costs of Medicare; prescription drug coverage including Medicare Part D and NYS EPIC; Long Term Care planning and insurance; Medicare preventive and health screening benefits; and comparing employee or retiree insurance with Medicare insurance options.

“The Medicare open enrollment period begins October 15 and runs through December 7,” said DiCarlo.  “So these community meetings are at the opportune time.”

The meetings will be held on:
