NORLIC to demolish old bank building on Main Street in Barker

The Niagara Orleans Regional Land Improvement Corporation (NORLIC) – often referred to as the county land bank – today announced that an old bankBank bldg Demo Barker.9.12.23 building located at 8685 Main Street in Barker would be demolished this week.  The building has been vacant for well over a decade or more.

“I appreciate the efforts of NORLIC to focus on this property and hire a professional firm that conducted a full structural assessment of the building,” said Niagara County Legislator Shawn Foti.  “Upon completion of that assessment, the firm recommended that the building was not structurally sound nor safe to occupy, and that the best course of action would be take the building down.”

Foti said he has had discussions with Barker Mayor Seanna Corwin-Bradley about the property and is optimistic that site will be put be back to productive use once it has been cleared.

“This is a great location in the village and it’s unfortunate the site has been vacant for so long,” said Foti.  “Now, we can focus on potential redevelopment.”
