Temporary Assistance is a federally-funded program formerly known as Public Assistance and is intended to help families who have little to no income. It provides assistance to families who may have a member who can't find work, is unable to work or has a job with insufficient income.
Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) provides benefits to an eligible family for a maximum of 60 months in a lifetime.
Safety Net Assistance provides benefits to single persons and childless couples for a maximum of two years in a lifetime. There are intake workers in both Niagara Falls and Lockport who review applications, interview applicants and explain the regulations or the programs.
