Niagara County Announces "Hope Links" Campaign

The Niagara County Opioid (OASIS) Task Force will be launching its “Hope Links” campaign at the 2022 Niagara County Fair, according to Myrla Gibbons-Doxey, Niagara County Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services (NCDMH) Deputy Director and Co-Chair of the Niagara County Opioid (OASIS) Task Force Public Awareness/Involvement Subcommittee.  The campaign asks fairgoers to complete one paper link by writing on that link something that has posed a significant life challenge to them and something that gave them hope that they could triumph over that challenge. These links will be collected and utilized to create a visual representation that “Hope Links” our community together in the face of adversity.

“This campaign continues to highlight the message that recovery, a transformative process, is possible when the community links together to care for and support all of its members”, says Laura Kelemen, NCDMH Director.

“When people believe that there is hope, they persevere. Hope helps us to turn any challenge into a story of triumph,” says Gibbons Doxey, “I encourage our community members who are facing any challenge to hold onto hope and use it to change the chains that bind them into links that connect them.”

Fairgoers are invited to visit the Opioid Taskforce’s table, which is located in the Sheriff’s tent, and provide their words of encouragement and also hear about available resources.

Community Members are reminded that the Niagara County Crisis Services 24-Hour phone line offers free, confidential support, guidance, information, referral and interventions as needed. Call (716) 285-3515. “There is Help – There Hope. Recovery is Possible.”
