Niagara Orleans Regional Land Improvement Corporation to Host Homebuyer Education Series

The Niagara Orleans Regional Land Improvement Corporation (NORLIC), often referred to as the Land Bank, will be hosting a two-part homebuyer education series, with the first session scheduled for tomorrow night, Thursday, September 22.  This free series is being done in partnership with Belmont Housing.

Niagara County Legislator Chris Voccio, a member of the NORLIC Board of Directors, said the series will be taught by HUD Certified Housing Counselors.

“This is an opportunity for those interested in homeownership to really get an understanding of the entire process from professionals who can also discuss the various programs and opportunities that are available,” said Voccio.

The 6-hour workshop covers the full process of purchasing a home, from finding a home, to financing and to closing.  This class also fulfills the certification requirements for most first-time homebuyer programs.

Matt Chavez, Project Manager for NORLIC, said series like this are important to NORLIC’s efforts to rebuild neighborhoods.

“Our efforts at revitalizing neighborhoods by acquiring delinquent and vacant residential properties will not be successful if we cannot attract people to make these properties their homes,” said Chavez.  “That why we need to promote series like this, so people recognize homeownership is indeed attainable.”

When: Thursday September 22 & 29
Time: 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Where: TReC, 616 Niagara Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14303

Chavez said space is limited and pre-registration is required.  Registration can be done by calling (716) 884-7791 ext. 131.
