Time to Clean House

Niagara County Legislature Chairman Becky Wydysh and Legislator Irene Myers today said they are co-sponsoring a household hazardous waste collection on Saturday, August 21st in Lewiston in conjunction with the Town of Lewiston, Senator Ortt, Assemblyman Morinello and the Niagara County Department of Public Works. The event is open to all Niagara County residents but you must schedule an appointment.

“This is a great time to get rid of those hazardous waste items that may be in a corner of the basement or out in your garage,” said Wydysh.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Town of Lewiston Highway Garage located at 1445 Swann Rd.  Registration can be done online at www.rethinkyourwaste.com/events.

“These events have always been popular with residents so if you plan on attending, do not delay in registering,” said Legislator Irene Myers, a co-sponsor of the event.

Myers said items such as oil paints, stains, fluorescent bulbs, spray paint & other aerosols, paint thinner, cleaners, pesticides, fertilizer, gasoline, acids/bases, glues, resins, adhesives and mercury devices are all accepted.   Items NOT accepted include waste oil, waste from businesses, electronic waste and tires.  Latex paint will also not be accepted at this event, but a state law will take effect next year establishing free and convenient drop off sites.
