Niagara County Announces Upcoming Closing of Portion of Carmen Rd

Niagara County Department of Public Works (DPW) Commissioner Garret Meal today announced the pending closure of Carmen Road, between Ridge and Seaman Roads in the Town of Hartland, beginning Monday, April 18 for a bridge replacement.  Electronic message boards and detour signs will be going up next week.

DPW will be replacing the bridge on Carmen Rd. that goes over Johnson Creek.  The bridge has already been reduced to one lane for over a year due to an advanced state of deterioration. It is expected that the road will be closed to all but local traffic until early November of this year.  This is a federally funded project with an anticipated construction cost of $1.6 million.

“I recognize these road closures are a major inconvenience to motorists, but there are no feasible alternatives to road closings when we are replacing a bridge,” said Meal.  “As always, we appreciate the public’s patience as we undertake these important infrastructure improvements.”
