Niagara County Department of Health Reports First Rabies Case of 2019

The Niagara County Department of Health has been notified that a raccoon submitted for rabies testing from Ditch Road in the Town of Royalton (Wolcottsville) was confirmed positive for rabies. This is the first rabid animal confirmed in the County in 2019. The raccoon was reported to have bitten two sheep before the owner intervened and killed the raccoon.  The owner opted to euthanize the sheep upon hearing the rabies test was positive.

National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) is an annual observance to promote the benefits of immunizations and to improve health of children two years old or younger.  Routine childhood immunizations help to protect infants and children from 14 vaccine-preventable diseases before age two. Some diseases that once injured or killed thousands of children are no longer common in the United States, primarily due to safe and effective vaccines.
