Veteran's Benefits

The Veteran's Service Agency's aim is to insure that all veterans and their dependents have access to any benefits to which they may be eligible as the result of the veteran’s active duty, military, or naval service. There are benefits due to some reservists and national guardsmen, but, this must be determined on an individual basis.

Some of the area’s most frequently covered by the Veteran Service Ageny's office are:

  • Service-Connected Disability Compensation
  • Non service-Connected Disability Pension
  • Widows’/Dependents’ Pension/DIC
  • Montgomery G.I. Educational Bill/Post 911 G.I. Bill
  • Vocational Rehabilitation – need to be at least 10% for a service-connected disability for review
  • VA Healthcare
  • Home Loan Guaranty
  • Request for military records
  • Request for service medals
  • Recording of DD214/Separation papers with the County Clerk’s Office
  • New York State Property Tax Exemptions (Combat, Service–connected disability, war time era)
  • New York State Medals for Certain Active Duty Service
  • New York State Exempt Parks Pass – need to be 40% for a service-connected disability
  • New York State Exempt Thruway Pass (E-Z Pass) – need to be 100% for a service-connected disability, Permanent and total with vehicle adaptability
  • New York State Hunting licenses and permits – need to be at least 40% for a service-connected disability for reduced licenses
  • Discharge Upgrade
  • Burial Benefits – Monetary benefit requires at least a 10% service-connected disability, in receipt of pension or to have died in a VA hospital
 THE FIRST TIME YOU GOTO THEIR OFFICE, PLEASE BRING YOUR ORIGINAL DD214 OR THE EQUIVALENT. If you do not have the original or a copy, we may be able to send to the records center and get one.
