October was Domestic Violence Awareness month.  On October 26, 2014, the Niagara County Deputy Sheriff's Police Benevolent Association held its third annual 5K run and Kids Fun Run to raise awareness for victims of domestic violence.  The event was held at Widewaters Marina in the City of Lockport where 75 runners completed the 5k race and several children participated in the fun run.  The PBA was able to donate $2,000.00 to the Domestic Violence Unit at the Niagara County Sheriff's Office thanks to our many generous supporters and runners.  Sheriff James R. Voutour praised the efforts of the PBA and the individuals who supported this worthwhile cause.

The Niagara County Domestic Violence Unit was implemented in 1994. This program has been providing Niagara County domestic violence victims access to services and benefits of the criminal justice system through early intervention to provide the safety and support they need.
