North Tonawanda DMV Evening Hours

Lockport  - Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski announced today that the North Tonawanda Department of  Motor Vehicles located at 500 Wheatfield Street will not offer extended evening hours on Tuesday, December 24th and Tuesday, December 31st in observance of the holidays.  The office will close at the regular time, 4:30 PM.

2020 Niagara County Tentative Budget - At a New Historic Low

Radon Tests are Encouraged and Free Kits are Available

According to a state study, ten percent (10%) of the basements in homes in Niagara County have reported radon levels above the radioactive measurement of four Picocuries per liter (pCi/L), which is the short-term safety standard.  Fifteen percent (15%) of homes tested in the City of Lockport are estimated to have exceeded that standard.  Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer deaths among nonsmokers in America and claims the lives of about 21,000 Americans each year.

New York State Announces February SNAP Benefits Being Issued Early Due to Federal Government Shutdown

Most New Yorkers Receiving SNAP Will Get Full February Benefits by January 17

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance today announced that most recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will receive their full February benefits early, due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. Current SNAP recipients may receive their February benefits by Thursday, January 17.

County Receives $6 Million Grant for Emergency Communications Upgrade

Lockport, NY – Niagara County has been awarded a $6 million grant from The NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Office of Interoperable and Emergency Communications.  The award is from the 2018 SICG-Targeted Program, which is being distributed based on an analysis of data related to the implementation of National Interoperability Channels in New York.
