Three New COVID-19 Positive Test Results in Niagara County

Niagara County Public Health Director Daniel J. Stapleton today said the county has received three new positive test results from the New York State Department of Health.  As of this morning, Niagara County now has 12 positive results, 64 people quarantined, 12 in isolation and still 4 pending test results from last week.  It is believed all new cases were via community spread.  In addition, 29 people have completed their quarantine.

The Niagara County Department of Social Services today announced that they have been working to identify open childcare slots for public and private sector employees who are deemed essential and are having childcare issues.

Niagara County Announces Closures/Operational Changes in Response to Governor’s Mandate on COVID-19

Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh and Niagara County Manager Rick Updegrove today announced the following series of closings and service reductions as County Government complies with Governor Cuomo’s mandate to reduce staff reporting to government offices by 50 percent.  This mandate will promote social distancing and curtail the spread of COVID-19.

Eastern Niagara Hospital and Niagara County Reach Agreement for Use of Former Newfane Hospital

Eastern Niagara Hospital and Niagara County today announced they have entered into a short-term agreement for the use of the former Newfane Intercommunity Hospital for housing quarantined individuals, should it be needed in the effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Niagara County Legislature Takes on State Article 10 Law

"We've had enough of Albany destroying our communities"

The Niagara County Legislature is expected to take up four resolutions tonight directed squarely at New York State’s Article 10 Law that involves the siting of electric generating facilities in New York State.  The law, which took away local control over siting decision and instead gave control to the Board of Electric Generation Siting and the Environment, has become a source of controversy as large wind and solar developers have descended on Niagara County to site their facilities.
