The Niagara County Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services (NCDMH), in partnership with the Niagara County Opioid Task Force (OASIS) and local pharmacies, today announced the launch of a campaign to provide the Niagara County Crisis Services 24-Hour phone line number on prescription medications that have a high potential for abuse and overdose.

The Niagara County Legislature returned to meeting in person yesterday and acknowledged the leadership team of the Niagara County Health Department (NCDOH) for their tremendous efforts in leading the county through the pandemic.

Niagara County Department of Public Works (DPW) Commissioner Garret Meal today announced the pending closing of Lockport Road, just east of Walmore Road.  Electronic message boards will be erected Monday June 14 warning travelers that the road is scheduled to be closed, except for local traffic, beginning on Monday June 21.

Niagara County Legislator Dave Godfrey and Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti today announced that plans are underway to relocate the Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy (NCLEA) to the campus of Niagara County Community College (NCCC).  The NCLEA is currently located at Niagara University.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski today said Niagara County will once again honor Purple Heart Veterans by adding their name to county’s Book of Honor at a ceremony to be held on August 7.  The county is asking any Purple Heart Veterans or their family members who have not yet come forward to please do so by June 11 in order to be part of this year’s ceremony.

The Niagara County Department of Employment and Training will be holding an outdoor career fair on Wednesday, June 9 at Oppenheim Park for those seeking employment.  More than 35 companies with open positions have signed up to take part. 

Niagara County Public Works Commissioner Garret Meal today said roadwork on Sunset Drive in Lockport from Upper Mountain Road to Stone Road will begin on Monday June 14^th.  The work includes repairing drainage structures, regrading side ditches and resurfacing Sunset Drive.

Niagara County Legislator Dave Godfrey today said a first-of-its-kind local law in New York State that will hold manufacturers responsible for disposing spent solar panels is now drafted and will be presented to the Legislature on June 15.  The draft is now available for review at https://tinyurl.com/4h3f4ups.  

The Niagara County Department of Social Services (DSS) today announced that the New York State Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) is now accepting applications to help low and moderate-income households who are behind in their rent payments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Niagara County received approximately $10 million in federal rental assistance aid that will be administered through ERAP.
