Niagara County Legislator Rich Andres, Chairman of the Economic Development Committee, today announced that applications are now available for Niagara County’s COVID Relief for Small Business Grant program.  

Niagara County Manager Richard Updegrove today said the county has been awarded $343,975.34 from the county’s participation in the NYS County-Wide Shared Services Initiative (CWSSI).  The CWSSI was created to generate savings by encouraging creative efforts at collaboration by local governments across the state. 

Niagara County Legislature Chairman Becky Wydysh today announced that the county’s Commissioner of Economic Development, Michael Casale, has been appointed to the New York State Farmland Protection Working Group (FPWG).  Casale was one of 18 members of the FPWG announced by state Agricultural Commissioner Richard Ball.  

Niagara County Legislator Owen Steed will host his annual Thanksgiving Dinner for local families on Monday, November 22, but rather than a sit down dinner, residents will pick up dinners to take home and enjoy.  Steed said the format change was primarily based on the rise in COVID-19 cases.

The Niagara County Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services today announced the distribution of a community survey regarding suicide prevention in Niagara County. The survey will examine the community’s awareness of resources, how to help yourself or someone you know who is experiencing thoughts of suicide, and what type of supports you would like to see available in our community.

Niagara County Legislator Mike Hill announced that Niagara County has won a 2021 Diamond Award in the environmental category from the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC) for the Niagara County Landfill No. 1 Improvement Project.  Legislator Hill and Environmental Coordinator Dawn Timm made a presentation on the award at last night’s meeting of the county Legislature.

The Niagara County Department of Public Works (DPW) is alerting residents that they will begin surveying Ewings Road, from Jacques Road to Rte. 78, beginning this week.  

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski hosted a brief ceremony on Tuesday to open a display of the Niagara County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and the “Our Photo Album” exhibit featuring photos taken by Vietnam veterans during their tours of duty.  The display will be open at least through Veteran’s Day, Thursday, November 11 at the Niagara County Courthouse in Lockport.

Niagara County Legislator Owen Steed will host a community forum for residents to learn about many of the services available to them through Niagara County and partner agencies.  The free event will be held on Thursday, October 21 at the Doris Jones Family Resource Center in Niagara Falls.

The Niagara County Redistricting Commission today released its proposed map for the county’s 15 legislative districts based on 2020 census data.  Redistricting takes place once every 10 years.  The commission also announced two public hearings for the public to comment on the plan before it is forwarded to the Niagara County Legislature.
