Niagara County Employment & Training has announced that applications are now being accepted for the department’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). In order to be considered for the program, applicants must be a county resident, be between 14-20 years-old (must turn 14 by 5/14/21 and cannot turn 21 until after 8/27/21), and meet income guidelines.

“Over the course of the last week, the Niagara County Department of Social Services (DSS) has had approximately a dozen positive test results of DSS employees who work on the second floor of their office on 10^th Street in Niagara Falls, with several additional tests still outstanding."

Beginning on July 16, 2020, Office for the Aging will begin distributing Farmers’ Market Coupon Booklets at sites throughout Niagara County.  The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, headed by the NYS Dept of Agriculture and Markets, provides coupons to all who meet age and income requirements.  

The Niagara County Youth Bureau is sponsoring the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and is pleased to announce the open program site locations for 2020.

Legislator Jesse Gooch today announced that the Niagara County Employment & Training OneStop Center located in the Trott Access Center will reopen on a limited basis beginning Monday, June 8^th.  The center has been closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Niagara County Legislature has reached a bi-partisan agreement to appoint Meghan Lutz as Commissioner of the Department of Social Services.  Lutz had been serving as interim commissioner since the retirement of Anthony Restaino in January.

Niagara County Public Health Director Daniel J. Stapleton today said the county has received three new positive test results from the New York State Department of Health.  As of this morning, Niagara County now has 12 positive results, 64 people quarantined, 12 in isolation and still 4 pending test results from last week.  It is believed all new cases were via community spread.  In addition, 29 people have completed their quarantine.

Chairman of the Niagara County Legislature Becky Wydysh, Director of Public Health Daniel Stapleton, Emergency Services Director Jonathan Schultz and superintendents from Niagara County school districts will hold a press conference today, Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m. at the Warren J. Rathke Public Safety Training Facility (PSTF), 5574 Niagara Street Ext. in Lockport.
