Niagara County Clerk Joseph Jastrzemski and Niagara County Legislature Chairman Rebecca Wydysh today said Niagara County residents should strongly consider getting passports rather than rely on New York State driver’s licenses to meet the TSA requirements for REAL ID for all domestic flights that takes effect on October 1, 2020. 

Niagara County Emergency Services Director Jonathan Schultz told the Lake Ontario Planning Committee that current Lake Ontario water levels are already higher than at a similar period a year ago.  Schultz said the current water level is 246.59’, about nine inches above where they were on this date one year ago.

Niagara County Chairman Rebecca Wydysh addressed 48 high school students from the LYNC program (Leadership for the Youth of Niagara Communities) in the Legislative Chambers. LYNC is program run by Leadership Niagara and today's event was put together by Leadership Niagara President and CEO Liz Zulawski

The Niagara County Workforce Development Board today named Bonnie Rice as its new Executive Director.  The Workforce Development Board is a consortium comprised of a majority of private business leaders from the local community, as well as representatives from education, labor, and community organizations. 

County Clerk Joseph Jastrzemski said Niagara County will once again honor Purple Heart Veterans by adding their name to county’s Book of Honor at a ceremony to be held this August.  Jastrzemski was joined by Timothy Beach, a US Marine Corp Vietnam Veteran and the recipient of two Purple Heart awards, in announcing the county’s continuing effort to recognize all of its citizens wounded in battle.

Niagara County Legislator Will Collins sought to put to rest any notion that roughly 50 acres of land owned by Niagara County will be bought by the developer who purchased the Switzer Building on Davison Road as part of the developer’s project with Cazenovia Recovery Systems.

The entire Niagara County Legislature will be honored by the Niagara County Federation of Conservation Clubs with the John Daly Memorial Award for the Legislature’s bi-partisan unanimous support of gun owners’ rights. 

Snow may be on the ground and the temperatures a little chilly, but golf is already on the minds of the staff at the Niagara County Golf Course.  “It’s never too early to start planning for the 2020 golf season,” said head Greenskeeper Tom Farrell.  “That goes for both our staff and the golfing public.”

Newly-elected Niagara County Chairman Rebecca Wydysh delivered her first State of the County address last night in the County Legislative Chambers in Lockport.  Wydysh called on her colleagues and elected officials at other levels of government to find ways to worked together to address the many needs of our community.

Niagara County’s WorkSource One today announced that its “Succeed in Six” program will kickoff next week, January 24^th.  Those interested in participating can still sign up. The “Succeed in Six” program is designed to provide training for job seekers on the soft skills that employers are looking for when making their hiring decisions.
