The Niagara County Legislature issued a proclamation declaring May 14 at Apraxia Awareness Day to help raise awareness about this disorder.   

Niagara County Economic Development Chairman Rich Andres today said the proposed site for the new  warehouse project of which Amazon could be the potential tenant, was deemed shovel ready by Empire State Development (ESD) a decade ago, and as such, the project absolutely needs to be approved if the county wants to maintain credibility with national and international site selectors.

A new training facility for the Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy (NCLEA) will be built on the Sanborn campus of Niagara County Community College (NCCC).  An estimated $2.27 million for the building was appropriated in the SUNY building fund adopted by the state budget passage a few weeks ago.  Last fall, the Niagara County Legislature voted to allocate up to $3 million from the county’s American Rescue Plan funds for the construction project.  The total anticipated project cost is approx. $4.54 million.  

Niagara County Legislature Chairman Becky Wydysh today joined staff from the Niagara County Parks Department to plant a tree in Oppenheim Park to celebrate Arbor Day.  The Parks Department will be planting more than 200 trees this season through a forest restoration grant that is part of the federal Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services is participating in National Crime Victim’s Rights Week with displays in the Rotunda of the Niagara County Courthouse and the first floor of the Niagara Falls Municipal Building.  Stacy Suess, Niagara County Victim Services Coordinator, said the VAU, in conjunction with Child Advocacy Center of Niagara, Pinnacle Community Services, and YWCA of Niagara Frontier will be providing information about their programs and the community resources available to crime victims.  

In honor of the worldwide celebration of Earth Day on April 22, Niagara County today announced it was expanding its Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) program for the coming year, hosting four recycling events in addition to offering a self-haul voucher program.  Latex paints will also now be accepted for recycling.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski today encouraged Niagara County residents to schedule their appointment with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) soon for those who need to get their boats, motorcycles and other recreational vehicles registered for summer. 

 Following the passage of the New York State budget that included a 16 cent reduction per gallon in state gas taxes beginning June 1^st, several Niagara County legislators are looking to provide additional relief to motorists from the county sales tax.  

Niagara County Legislator Mike Hill, Chairman of the Community Safety & Security Committee, presented a proclamation to Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti, Undersheriff Michael Dunn and Director of Emergency Communications Marc Kasprzak, in honor of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, celebrated April 10-16, 2022.  

Niagara County Department of Public Works (DPW) Commissioner Garret Meal today announced the pending closure of Carmen Road, between Ridge and Seaman Roads in the Town of Hartland, beginning Monday, April 18 for a bridge replacement.  Electronic message boards and detour signs will be going up next week.
