New York State Cancer Services Program

The Cancer Services Program oversees the delivery of comprehensive breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening services and prostate cancer education to under-served populations in New York through contractual agreements with local community-based organizations. In addition the program provides public and health care provider education regarding cancer prevention and early detection, maintains a quality improvement program to ensure the quality of clinical services provided through the program and provides funds for community-based cancer support services for persons with cancer and their families.

New York State Smokers Tobacco Cessation Assistance

Smoking kills 25,500 people every year in New York State. Secondhand smoke kills 2,500 New Yorkers every year. Every year 570,000 New Yorkers who smoke are afflicted with serious diseases, such as cancer and cardiovascular disease. It is projected that 389,000 New York State youth age 0-17 will die from smoking. In Niagara County 1 out of every 4 adults are still smokers. Roswell Park Cancer Prevention & Population Sciences

Cancer Prevention & Population Sciences plans and conducts research aimed at reducing cancer morbidity and mortality. Investigators with expertise in epidemiology, cancer cause and detection, infection surveillance and cancer surveillance comprise this program.  

 

Niagara County Cancer Services Program (thru Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center)

Cancer Services Program provides free breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening for eligible uninsured residents.

 

Niagara County Chronic Disease Self-Management Program

This six-session health education program for people with any type of ongoing health condition and compliments the healthcare that an individual may already be receiving. Cancer Prevention & Population Sciences plans and conducts research aimed at reducing cancer morbidity and mortality. Investigators with expertise in epidemiology, cancer cause and detection, infection surveillance and cancer surveillance comprise this program. 

 

Niagara County Diabetes Prevention Program

This program is for individuals who have been diagnosed by their doctor as pre-diabetic and helps participants set and achieve personal lifestyle goals.

 

Niagara County Diabetes Self-Management Program

This six-week workshop helps participants learn or improve problem-solving and decision-making skills, enabling them to confront the challenges of living with diabetes.  Caregivers are also welcome.

 

Niagara County Lead Poisoning Prevention Program

This program provides services to families, physicians, daycare providers and educators in Niagara County. Our goal is to assure that all children are tested for lead poisoning at ages one and two and at any time they may come in contact with lead through home renovation, parents’ hobbies and workplace activities or simply by living in a home built before 1978 that has chipping or peeling paint.
