Niagara County Offers FREE Evidence Based Workshops

The Niagara County Department of Health Nursing Division, in collaboration with the Niagara County Office for the Aging, is offering free workshops throughout Niagara County for individuals with any ongoing health condition; for example, arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, pain and high blood pressure.  There is also a workshop designed for individuals who are at risk for developing diabetes. To register for one of the free workshops, or if you have additional questions, please contact Penny Tracey, RN, Nursing Division at the Niagara County Department of Health at (716) 278-1900. 

 

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP)

This six-week workshop helps participants learn or enhance their skills and ability to manage their health and maintain an active lifestyle. Caregivers are also welcome.

 

Workshops are scheduled to begin on:

  • Wednesday, January 10, 2018 (1:00pm – 3:30pm) Dale Association, 33 Ontario St., Lockport

  • Friday, February 16, 2018 (9:00am – 11:30am) Elks Lodge, 6791 North Canal Road, Lockport

     

Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP)

This 16-week workshop has been proven to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.  Individuals learn skills to make lasting lifestyle changes, including healthy eating, adding physical activity to their lives, how to manage stress and how to stay motivated.

 

Workshops are scheduled to begin on:

  • Friday, January 5, 2018 (2:00pm – 3:00pm) NT Public Library, 505 Meadow Drive, N.T.

  • Wednesday, January 10, 2018 (6:00pm – 7:00pm) American Legion, 8643 Buffalo Ave, NF

  • Tuesday, March 13, 2018 (9:00am – 10:00am) Eastern Niagara Hospital, 521 East Avenue, Lockport

 

Diabetes Self-Management Program (DSMP)

This six-week workshop helps participants learn or improve problem-solving and decision-making skills, enabling them to confront the challenges of living with diabetes.  Caregivers are also welcome.

 

Workshops are scheduled to begin on

  • Friday, January 5, 2018 (1:00pm – 3:30pm) Trott Access Center, 1001 11th St., Niagara Falls

  • Wednesday, January 10, 2018 (9am -11:30am) Eastern Niagara Hospital, 521 East Avenue, Lockport

  • Friday, May 4, 2018 (9:00am – 11:30am) Elks Lodge, 6791 North Canal Road, Lockport
