Niagara County Department of Health Reports First Rabies Case of 2019

The Niagara County Department of Health has been notified that a raccoon submitted for rabies testing from Ditch Road in the Town of Royalton (Wolcottsville) was confirmed positive for rabies. This is the first rabid animal confirmed in the County in 2019. The raccoon was reported to have bitten two sheep before the owner intervened and killed the raccoon.  The owner opted to euthanize the sheep upon hearing the rabies test was positive.

Niagara County Hosts Spring Western Region Breastfeeding Gathering and Welcomes Interested Professionals to Participate

The Niagara County Department of Health in partnership with the Tuscarora Community Health Workers Program is hosting a Spring Western Region Breastfeeding Gathering on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 8:30AM – 2:30PM at the Tuscarora Nation House located at 5226 Walmore Road, Lewiston, NY 14092. “This gathering is a unique collaborative opportunity to expand the knowledge of local professionals and create a breastfeeding friendly community network of support for women and children,” stated Public Health Director, Daniel J. Stapleton.
