Tuberculosis Program

The goal of the Tuberculosis (TB) Program is to make the community aware of the signs and symptoms of Tuberculosis. The TB program staff uses early detection, targeted testing and preventive treatment of Latent TB infection (LTBI).

Clients diagnosed with active TB who are being treated with multiple drug therapy are monitored through the directly observed therapy (DOT) program. A public health nurse visits the client five days per week to ensure that medications are taken as prescribed.

By immediate evaluation and treatment of suspected TB cases, the health department is able to decrease transmission to others and prevent mass outbreaks of the disease.

Tuberculosis clinics for evaluation and follow-up of individuals with LTBI and testing of contacts are held one day per month in the first floor clinic area of the Trott Access Center located at 1001 – Eleventh Street, Niagara Falls, New York 14301.

Appointments are required for the Tuberculosis clinic.

To speak to a public health nurse about Tuberculosis or to make an appointment for the TB clinic, call (716) 278-1900.
