Services Offered

Information & Assistance Services

The Niagara County Office for the Aging can provide information and referral, and case assistance services to persons sixty and older living in Niagara County. Assistance can also be provided to family and friends caring for an older person.

Our office is staffed with trained people who can help with any of the following:

  • Financial Counseling
  • Assistance with FormsHelping hands
  • Medical Insurance Counseling
  • Energy Assistance Applications
  • Referral to Home Care Services
  • Housing Counseling
  • Legal Services
  • Recreation or Social Activities
  • Referral to the Senior Companion Program
  • Referral to the Visually Impaired Program
  • Referral to Social Adult Day Care
  • Referral to Medical Transportation Program
  • Referral to Caregivers Program

Outreach Program

Niagara County Office for the Aging outreach staff are scheduled to be at different locations on a regular basis to inform people about services and programs for older people and to answer questions concerning the needs of the elderly.

Outreach staff will also make home visits to those elderly who have difficulty leaving their homes.

Any information given to staff members is kept completely confidential. You can depend on immediate help and follow through on your problems from our trained staff: Services are provided on a contribution only basis.

FACTS:  

The Niagara County Office for the Aging was created in June 1973 through funding from the Older American Act.  In  August 1974 the Information and Assistance Program was established.  We now have staff that goes to all 17 Nutrition Sites as well as  Senior Centers, Senior Clubs and Senior Housing.

The Office for the Aging is funded by the New York State Office for the Aging with Older Americans Act and New York State funds, and by Niagara County.
