Niagara County Department of Health Reports Tobacco Sales to Minors Violations

The Niagara County Department of Health Environmental Division and the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office (under contract with the Department of Health) have been conducting tobacco compliance checks throughout Niagara County since July 1, 1999. Every facility that sells tobacco to the public receives compliance checks to identify illegal sales to minors, including all vending machine operations. Under the supervision of an adult, compliance checks are conducted by 15 and 16 year olds who attempt to purchase tobacco products without identification while being truthful about their ages.

Niagara County Department of Health Receives $20,000 MRC Challenge Award for Public Health Initiativ

The Niagara County Department of Health, which directs and coordinates the Niagara County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Unit 0220,  has been awarded a $20,000 MRC Challenge Award from the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) in partnership with the Office of the Surgeon General. The Award will fund a project to improve community health developed in response to the Surgeon General’s 2011 Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding, and aligns with the National Prevention Strategy Healthy Eating Priority, as well as the New York State Department of Health’s breastfeeding initiative to promote nutrition and prevent chronic disease.
