Lockport - Niagara County lawmakers approved a $339 million spending plan Tuesday night that provides a 3.7 percent tax rate cut to county property owners.

The budget was approved 9-5.

The centerpiece of the budget, the last one adopted under the legislative leadership of outgoing Legislature Chairman William L. Ross, C-Wheatfield, and Majority Leader Rick Updegrove, R-Lockport, was a $.28 reduction in the countywide full value property tax rate, dropping taxes from $7.66 per $1,000 of assessed value to $7.38 per $1,000 of assessed value.

“This budget was fiscally conservative and sought to reduce the burden facing our county taxpayers, even as unfunded mandates from the state continue to place pressure on our county’s finances,” said Updegrove following the budget’s passage.

A table containing municipal tax rates, based upon the separate municipalities’ equalization rates, is included with this transmission in PDF format.
