Lockport—Niagara County lawmakers approved a $339 million budget plan Tuesday night that reduces spending while providing a 1.6 percent tax rate cut to county property owners, bringing tax rates to their lowest level of the 21st century.

The government financing blueprint also cuts spending by $579,000 over the previous budget year.

The budget was approved 12-3.

Majority Leader Randy Bradt, R-North Tonawanda, pointed to an 11 cents per $1000 reduction in the countywide full value property tax rate, dropping taxes from $7.38 per $1,000 of assessed value to $7.27 per $1,000 of assessed value.
