Wilson—Niagara County Treasurer Kyle Andrews—a JAG officer in the Army Reserve—will address attendees at Veterans Day ceremonies at Wilson’s Greenwood Cemetery Friday.

“We owe the men and women who’ve served this nation a profound and unpayable debt,” Andrews said this morning in Lockport. “Our armed forces cut across virtually every single demographic line—white, black, hispanic, Asian, men and women, young and middle-aged, devoutly religious and non-spiritual alike, Trump supporters, Hillary supporters. The thing that binds them all together is that they were willing to step forward and be counted.”

“What a truly great country,” Andrews added. “In my own experience in the Reserves, I have served with people from every background—kids from rough neighborhoods, guys from privileged backgrounds, girls from rural towns like Wilson. We pay them, but we don’t pay them enough. When they get out, we promise to take care of them, to provide them a base of support, but it doesn’t begin to repay the massive debt we have to people who—many when they’re barely out of high school—were willing to step into the line of fire so we could be safe and free.”

Andrews noted he and fellow leaders in county government have long made serving veterans a top priority.
