UPDEGROVE QUESTIONS FUNDING OF BUFFALO NON-PROFIT AS PART OF YAHOO PACKAGE

LOCKPORT—Niagara County Legislature Majority Leader Rick Updegrove, R-Lockport, today called into question a little-known mandate that requires Yahoo, as part of an incentive-laden package to expand its Lockport operation, to contribute millions of dollars to a Buffalo non-profit agency.

APRIL IS SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE (STD) AWARENESS MONTH

April is Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Awareness Month, an annual observance to call attention to the impact of STDs and to promote testing across the country. Over the last decade, Niagara County has consistently ranked in the top ten New York State counties for the number of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea cases reported annually. Since 2002, the number of Chlamydia cases reported to Niagara County has increased by over 90 percent.

WORLD TUBERCULOSIS DAY IS MARCH 24

March 24th marks the anniversary of the 1882 discovery of Tuberculosis Bacteria (TB), a disease that usually affects the lungs.  This discovery led to the development of treatment for Tuberculosis.  While TB generally affects the lungs ( pulmonary TB), other body parts can also be affected, including vital organs, lymph nodes and bones (extrapulmonary TB). TB can affect anyone of any age.  It is spread through the air when a contagious person with pulmonary TB coughs, speaks or breathes.  Prolonged exposure is needed for an individual  to become infected.

STATE AWARDS PERFECT SCORES TO NIAGARA COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH’S PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM
