Now taking applications – Summer Jobs at Niagara County Parks, Golf Course and Highway Dept.

Niagara County Department of Public Works is now taking applications for seasonal help for 2019 Spring and Summer season.  Positions are currently open at the five County Parks, the County Golf Course in Lockport and the Highway Department.  Hours vary by job location.  Applicants shall be 18 years of age or older.

Radon Tests are Encouraged and Free Kits are Available

According to a state study, ten percent (10%) of the basements in homes in Niagara County have reported radon levels above the radioactive measurement of four Picocuries per liter (pCi/L), which is the short-term safety standard.  Fifteen percent (15%) of homes tested in the City of Lockport are estimated to have exceeded that standard.  Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer deaths among nonsmokers in America and claims the lives of about 21,000 Americans each year.

New York State Announces February SNAP Benefits Being Issued Early Due to Federal Government Shutdown

Most New Yorkers Receiving SNAP Will Get Full February Benefits by January 17

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance today announced that most recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will receive their full February benefits early, due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. Current SNAP recipients may receive their February benefits by Thursday, January 17.
