TOWN OF NIAGARA – This year marks the 20th anniversary of one of the most popular family events in the area. And it’s FREE!

“KIDZ ‘N’ KITES” will be making its annual appearance on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017 at Veterans Memorial Community Park, 7000 Lockport Road. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and fly time runs noon to 2 p.m.

As tradition has it, the first 1,000 children through the gates will receive a free event T-shirt, kite, hot dog lunch and a ticket for the prize drawing. All activities will run 12 to 2 p.m. The public is reminded that there will be no rain date this year.

But there’s much more to the family event than T-shirts and hot dogs as any kid knows.

“Come fly with us in celebration of youth” is the theme that has continued through the years as families enjoy sports, fun, food, and learning. Thanks to the generous donations of the event’s many sponsors, children and their parents can take part in balloon making with the clowns, face painting, a car seat safety check and enjoy a kite flying demo, the Niagara Falls Police Department command center, animal and wildlife rescue groups, the Falls Fire Department fire house, and much more.

Keeping it all in beat will be DJ the Dee Jay to provide background music for listening and dancing pleasure. The festivities are capped off by the comic juggling of Injest.Com and drawings for the many donated prizes, as well as some award presentations.

One of the key reasons the event has stayed cost-free all these years is the support of the sponsors whose donations keep the kites flying. Event organizers would like to make a loud shout out to Fidelis Care for its “gold flyer” generosity of $1,000.

Assisting with the set-up, registration and clean-up are dozens of volunteers from the County Department of Social Services, Sheriff’s Department and Youth Bureau, whose organizations also sponsor the event.

Also sponsoring the event are the Sheriff’s DARE program, Niagara PAL, the Town of Niagara, Jonathan “J-Mill” Miller Memorial Fund, Berkshire Farms, Grigg-Lewis Foundation, the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston, M&T Bank, Niagara-Orleans Central Labor Council, Niagara-Choice Federal Credit Union, Modern Disposal, Catholic Charities, Pellicano’s Marketplace, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 237, Scott Furniture, Image Collision, Sahlen’s, Fresh Bake, Reid’s Drive-In, Mighty Taco, WKBW-TV/DT and Wegmans.
