Medication Adminsitration Training (MAT) For Childcare Providers

The Nursing Division of the Niagara County Health Department is offering medication administration training “MAT” to licensed or registered childcare providers and their staff. The training is required for childcare providers to be in compliance with the state regulation enacted to standardize medication administration in preschools and childcare facilities throughout New York State.

The OCFS (Office of Children and Family Services) regulation requiring this certification became effective January 31, 2005. It affects all licensed and registered childcare providers (family daycares, group family daycares, school age programs and daycare centers) that administer medication, other than topical over-the-counter products.

Classes may be scheduled at County Office Buildings or daycare centers in Niagara County on an as needed basis. Participants from all counties are welcome and the Health Department accepts the SUNY voucher as payment in full.

Upon successful completion of the SUNY MAT course, participants will receive MAT Certification, which is good for three years in the childcare setting only.

To arrange a class for your group, contact Lana Zahn, Public Health Nurse/Medication Administration Trainer at (716) 439-7513 or send an e-mail request to Lana Zahn
